CASA News 2024

  • Crusin' for CASA Kids  We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of our first ever Cruisn' for CASA Kids event on October 12th! Thank you to our wonderful community members who joined us to cruise the scenic roads of Eastern Kentucky, helping raise funds and awareness for our mission! A special thank you goes to all of our sponsors and a special shoutout to the Appalachian Woodboogers for graciously hosting.
  • Community Resource Fair was conducted at the campus of HCTC. CASA participated alongside numerous local organizations that provided residents information on resources in this area.
  • We welcomed our newest hire Sarah Moorefield as our new Community Engagement and Development Specialist.
  • Kentucky Bar Foundation Award "The Kentucky Bar Foundation’s mission is to further the public’s understanding of the judicial system and the legal profession through programs and philanthropic partnerships that help those in need. One of the ways that the Foundation serves this mission is by awarding annual grants to law-related organizations and projects". CASA of the Appalachian Mountains was awarded the Kentucky Bar Foundation award in May 2024 for $1,140 to help support our Optima program through Evinto Solutions for the upcoming fiscal year. Evinto Solutions supports the work of CASA programs throughout the country by providing software to track and recruit volunteers, case management, retrieve customizable reports and so much more. By receiving this award from the Kentucky Bar Foundation, CASA is able to further our mission of helping the abused and neglected children in the communities of Eastern Kentucky.
  • Out of this world exercise Dance Party was held on May 11th at the Challenger Learning Center in Hazard.
  • Mayfest 2024 kicked off on Saturday, May 11th in Downtown Whitesburg. The event kicked off with a performance by Kyle McCowan, Johnny Pop Day and Cory Michael Harris. There were lots of booths, crafts and food! Join us next year at Mayfest 2025
  • Paint & Picnic: To welcome in the Spring Season, we hosted a Paint and Picnic fundraiser. With the help of Kenna's Creative Canvas we had a huge turnout to the event and everyone painted the most beautiful flower boxes. Thank you to everyone for your support.
  • Coffee Sleeves: During the month of April, we partnered with the Hazard Coffee Company to help raise awareness of child abuse and neglect. We partnered with local elementary schools in the region to help color white coffee sleeves with the depiction of, "What makes home special?"
  • Young Visionaries Art Gala: With the kickoff of Child Abuse Prevention month in April, we hosted an Art Gala celebrating the talents of young artists in Eastern Kentucky. With the help of local High School children, they created various forms of art with the depiction of, "What does home mean to you?" Our Gala was a huge success and congratulations to our top winners! 1st place was Saigen Holliday. 2nd place was Niko Fugate and 3rd place was Lacyn Hylton. Thank you to the Appalachian Arts Alliance for allowing us to host our event at your beautiful office space, and thank you to our generous donors for donating prizes for our winners. The Printery in Floyd County donated an art supply basket, The Artisan Center donated free classes to their workshop and Texas Road House donated free dinner vouchers.
  • New Board Members: We welcomed on three new Board Members in March: Patrick Hall, Kristie Goff, and Kendra Johnson. We are excited for them to be apart of our CASA team and look forward to their help in making this organization everything it can be.
